How big is your project going to be? There are a number of other steps which one might rather go through before considering breaking up the system into multiple pieces. To be frank, I think it's premature to be considering this for a project before actually having the need for it.

It's for a social network (not a regular one, a specific niche) that's expected to grow quite large. I can implement it later on I guess but I want to have it running now so I don't bump into any huge problems later on. Also thinking about purchasing the following book: http://oreilly.com/c.../9780596102357/
