Just wondering which application you all use here to program PHP in. And why? I've been using phpDesigner a lot, liking it but haven't tried any other apps yet really besides notepad(++). Textmate looks like a really nice program, but I'm not running on a Mac.

Dreamweaver all the way although i have had to reprogram certain functions over a long period to get it to do exactly as i want. As far as i am concerned, Dreamweaver is the best application for anything code related.

Vi! Vi is the best text editor ever. Down with Emacs! Who needs ed? Can you even see nano without an electron microscope?

Other than that, gedit is also good. Some may feel that gedit is for morons, sice it's graphical, but I can't afford to spend all my time with an editor that beeps constantly!

(I use Fedora. 9. With Special Bits.)

I have recently started to get involved with learning PHP.

Despite advice on what programs would be most efficient, I have decided to stick with the old fashioned notepad, and WAMP5 installed locally. I personally feel that this would be the easiest way to learn it, as I would always need to start from scratch, while not having any "help" or "pre-sets".

Coda for PHP etc development and Espresso for HTML/ CSS development.

Both are really clean programs, with features such as Subversion control and FTP uploading. Good coding interface and easy to use..

I've been using Coda for a long, long time now. After having tried many other applications, other editors through to behemoth IDEs, I always tend to fall back to Coda. It quite simply does what I want of it, and not a whole lot more.

I am a big fan of Coda for the mac. It does everything I need it to do when it comes to xHTML, CSS and basic PHP coding.
For the PC, I've always used a program called Notepad2 however I've heard good things about PHP Designer too.

dreamweaver is great as it highlights part of the code and when I make changes I just press ctrl + s and it automatically saves and uploades to my server immedietly so I can see the changes.

Good old Netbeans :)

I use to use that for Java, but now I only get to work with Eclipse at work.
