Would be good to get some votes in from you guys and your opinions on your selected choice and we can narrow down further. If you present your own idea I'll simply start a new poll in a couple of days and get more popular ideas/votes driven down into one idea.

My vote would go to some kind of social site; again this needs suggestions towards again (as in what kind of social site) but I'd like something where developers and designers can meet and greet eachother and have shiny badges based on their skillset as rated by OTHER designers/developers. Maybe a giant marketplace.. Again this is just a project, and we can create the app and all of the tools and it's another point scored if we actually get the site live and with people using it!

Be positive, it's probably going to be a lengthy road!

@Sam - We'll probably need some sort of group on these forums, for the Community Project, so we can later add in more private areas where we can discuss eachothers problems and post links to code, Repo's etc.

I'll add a private subforum for project members today, will also arrange a SVN location on the server.

Regarding ideas, I have a few but will post them when I'm back home from work :).

I think we should do a help desk project, here is my reasoning:

1)Project Manager App - I don't know many who actually use these tbh.
2)Forum App - Way too many out there as it is.
3)Invoice/Billing App - Pretty much what I have started already on my own
4)Social Site - I have never seen any new ones go far.

Over and out.

I like the Helpdesk project the most too from that list.

An easy CMS for designers would also be a nice idea, but it's a harder market to break. If we would go for a CMS, we'd have to make it possible for designers to easily made new modules/plugins just through xml and lettig the system create the database table and controller automatically.

My vote however still goes to the helpdesk idea! :) Lot of things we can learn from it depending how deep we want to go technically. For example, we could create a Bayesian filter for autoresponding to tickets of already possibly known issues making it easier for helpdesk staff.

Expanding on Sam's thoughts with the healpdesk, sounds about right and i'm sure everybody here has used a ticket system, whether it is on the client side or the admin side we all know what specific kind of features would make it easier to get support or give support. Also many help desks out there cost like $100+, would be great publicity for all contributors and even the community if it was open source or even lower cost then the rest.

Helpdesk is looking popular. I liket he sound of it too. I'll compile some thoughts and then try and get some more in depth feature type ideas together for us all to expand on, perhaps we could brief a couple of projects and then see which one we want to expand on from there.

I mentioned the forum idea because a forum app that is based like social networking sites in terms of design and usability could be an interesting field, like with replying to it, the box for a quick reply would be in the thread and you just type your message and then it removes the textarea input and just saves instantly to the page (one idea) and many more to interact users of a forum more and keep people updated on what is going on in current threads they're participating in etc.

I've made the forum, and a new user group to link it up with, the usergroup isn't displaying when I'm trying to add it to a user. I will have to continue looking at this tomorrow, at the moment it's only viewable by admins and moderators. Will keep you all updated on this matter.

Edited: Nevermind, as for the idea of a helpdesk, that's cool! I wanted a good free helpdesk before, but lost interest in keep that one site plan going, sold it off and no longer needed it. LOL! I'm game for whatever really, but rather do a social site though. :P

It's not unanimous (there are two votes for social app) but it certainly has the majority and soon we should think about planning a help desk app out!

I'm not saying the Help Desk is a bad idea, but I think we should have a little more fun with it and go crazy with it. Maybe some sort of social networking app...im thinking, I just need some more time :P

Urgh, if I here "social networking app" one more time, I think I might just go crazy.

That said, if things do get under way (whatever the project is) and no-one would mind a part-timer sticking his oar in occasionally then I'd be happy to be that person. :)

I'm actually working on a social networking app atm

Are we all good for going with the helpdesk (I am, don't want to make Salathe suffer another second  ) or do you want to continue discussing other ideas?
