After working with basic HTML and CSS for a while now, I wanted to look into learning more in-depth PHP, so I could develop some backend products for personal and possible client use.

As this community is comprised of various developers, I would like to ask if anyone has specific recommendation on free sources right now that I can use to start learning it. As I am currently unemployed with no money on me, I am unable to afford any heavy products or guides.

Ive been thinking about the same thing lately but Im not sure if I want to learn PHP, Ruby or some other programming language.

Anyway you can just search "php tutorials" on google and you will get tons of results. Talk PHP is a pretty nice community focused on just PHP. rolleyes.gif

I was always scared to learn PHP however recently I had to take on PHP and MySQL to complete an assignment at University. I'm really enjoying with PHP and MySQL. So much easier to run and setup than Ruby in my opinion.

Would suggest PHP to anybody smile.gif

These are great! I watched the first four/five and I learned pretty much all of the basics (I think).
Be warned though, the guy who does the videos is pretty strange...

I'd suggest using many of the simple tutorial websites such as pixel2life.com / tutorialized.com etc. Or if you have a spare a few dollars buy yourself a PHP book they are amazing.

http://nettuts.com/ is just the best for PHP/Web development. Updated daily. Also on their network they have a side blog to a theme selling website and currently Jeff is doing a series of PHP tutorials and is up to day 16 ( http://blog.themefor...diving+into+php )
