It would be really nice if you could make a few pointers to do with cross-browser coding, soo many people struggle with it, maybe a few important hacks and tweaks users can make

I personaly dont know where to start, i think a slicing guide would be handy, and not a slicing guide where you slich seperate grey boxes, a step by step, technical layout sliced up would be great, for me personaly.

Then obviously, how to check if it validates, all the basics, and how to make things expandable, repete...etc

You should cover on how to get the best quality images when saving for web, what format to save as, what diffusion percentages to use etc..

Continuing from Blambu's post directly above, you should cover how to get the lowest filesize whilst saving (or sacrificing…) visual quality.

Also, examples are nice but it would be a shame if the book ending up being, "Here's how to code this individual template from PSD to HTML." It'd be nicer, in my eyes, to see core concepts and ideas explored rather than a walkthrough.

Numerous guides relating to the same topic lack uniqueness, which you need to key into. They all rely on the same fundamentals of default slicing, saving, and editing. For a unique guide, you should cover multiple methods.

I would have to agree with Aaron on this point. Developers tend to slice everything they see, which makes it difficult in the long run to transition. You should focus on providing details on how to develop functional markup with the use of logical slicing placement, and how to develop functional markup with material not sliced.

The other requests above such as optimization of load through image quality and the cross-browser compatibility, will be a nice addition, since many guides fail to key into specific details about it.
